Long Term Savings
In life, you get what you pay for. Along with death and taxes this is almost a universal guarantee.
Of course, bargains do exist out there, and good deals are possible to find, but in general, if you want high quality then you have to pay for it.
However, at this point it is necessary to make the distinction between cost and value. Just because something is cheap, it doesn’t mean it is good value.
And this is a lesson that is particularly relevant to wood pellets. Look around on the internet and you may be able to find cheap wood pellets. In fact, some of the deals seem like great value.
But it’s easy to confuse cost with value. Delivery of cheap bulk wood pellets might cost less, but that doesn’t mean you are getting good value for your money.
Here’s Why
Wood pellets are a source of fuel for specially designed pellet burner heating systems. But not all pellets are created equal. Cheap pellets will be of poorer quality, which means that their harder exterior is more fragile.
What this means at a practical level is that they will break apart more easily, exposing the softer centre and creating more dust. And when it comes to wood pellet burners, dust is very bad indeed.
It won’t burn and is more likely to clog up your burner, leading to longer-term problems that require expensive maintenance and repair.
Over time you might save hundreds on cheaper pellet deliveries, but one costly repair bill and all your savings are wiped out. Buy cheap pellets and you’ll get more dust, and more problems. Besides that, you pay for pellets by weight. Imagine that you order 5,000kg of pellets. If 50kg of that is pure dust, then that’s 1% wasted.
More expensive wood pellets are usually better quality, which means they are less likely to break apart. This means less dust, a cleaner boiler, more efficient heating and better value. Here at the Wood Pellet Delivery Company our pellets are specially treated to maintain their strength and integrity.
This low dust formula means that in an average customer order of 5,000kg, there will be less than 5kg dust, or around 0.1%. That’s ten times less than in the same number of cheap pellets.
Over the years that could add up to a large saving. However, it is not just the amount you can save on the fuel itself. It means that your boiler or burner will last longer. The recommended lifespan is 20 years, but with cheap pellets this could be as little as 15, meaning you’re losing up to 25% of your original investment.
As you can see, investing in good quality pellets makes perfect sense. It might cost a little more in the short term, but over time you will more than make your money back.
Remember that it is not always about price, sometimes it’s the value that makes all the difference.
