Blown Wood Pellet Delivery
Unlike gas and electricity, wood pellets aren’t delivered direct to your home via pipes and cables. This means that you need to order in the fuel if you’re going to keep your house warm this winter.
In order to ensure you don’t run out of fuel just as a cold snap kicks in, you need to order enough wood pellets for at least a few months.
If you buy wood pellets by the ton, you need to ensure that you have somewhere suitable to keep them. Storing pellets properly will extend their lifespan and ensure they burn as efficiently as possible when it’s time to stoke up your pellet burner.
Keeping your wood pellets dry
When storing bulk stove pellets, you need to ensure that the pellets are kept as dry as possible. If they get wet, the pellets can begin to degrade and you may find they’re in poor condition when it comes time to get your pellet burner started.
Ideally, wood pellets should be kept in a garage, shed or other weather-proof space. If possible, keep your pellets off the floor as this can make them damp in bad weather.
Keep away from excessive humidity
As well as protecting wood pellets from the rain, you also need to keep them away from excessive humidity.
Before storing your pellets, take a minute to look around the space you’ve chosen for them. If you can see damp patches, or if other items in the space look mouldy, it might not be the best place to store them.
You should also avoid keeping your wood pellets in places that are prone to flooding. Even spots that look dry at first can flood in particularly bad weather, so make sure your pellets are safe and sound by keeping them out of harm’s way.
