Bulk wood pellets doesn’t mean a poorer quality product
Buying in bulk can mean you get a better price per tonne, but that doesn’t mean you get a poor quality product. Essentially, you’re investing in a larger delivery of the same quality, premium wood pellets you’ve always enjoyed.
Better for the environment
Biomass heating and other renewable energy are about getting the best heat and in the most efficient way possible. That means making sure that the wood pellets used in your stove are the best quality, so you get less ‘sooting up’ and less maintenance and cleaning.
It also means fewer deliveries, which is a great way of reducing carbon emissions for you and the wood pellet supplier. By opting for bulk delivery, you may only need two or three deliveries a year, depending on your appliance and use – a far better prospect for saving the planet.
What about storage?
For many people, the issue with bulk wood pellets is space to store them and to store them in the correct way.
Inside storage
Choose a space that is dry and not susceptible to mould or flooding. Bulk wood pellets are delivered in double-lined bags, ideal for keeping moisture out. If possible, store stacked on a wooden pallet to allow air to circulate beneath the bags. This helps prevent moisture accumulating at the bottom of the pile.
Outside storage
Wood pellets can be stored outside, although you will need to be a lot more vigilant.
A good-quality, waterproof tarpaulin secured over the top of your bulk wood pellet delivery should do the trick, although it’s important to make sure that none of the bags are damaged on delivery. However, if possible, wood pellets should be stored indoors.
