Why Opt for Pellet Fuel Heating?
Pellet stoves may just offer you the heating solution you are looking for. But as well as understanding how pellet stoves work, you’ll also need to understand why choosing the best pellet fuel makes a difference.
Why opt for pellet fuel?
The cost of energy is increasing, a trend that shows no sign of slowing. Both electricity and gas prices make heating our homes even more expensive so much so, that many people are choosing to turn the heating off completely for short periods.
Pellet fuel is just one alternative that makes heat the home – and workplaces too, in some cases – far more cost-effective.
What are pellets made from?
Pellets are made from compressed wood shavings, sawdust and in some cases corn. A high-quality wood pellet will have a lighter, almost white appearance.
This signifies that there is only sawdust and wood products in the pellet which is not held together by glue nor has additives such as creosote to give it colour.
In other words, the material used in wood pellets would normally find its way into landfill but by compressing into pellets and burning, you get to keep warm and there is less waste.
Benefits of pellet fuel and stoves
Many of us are looking for an alternative to electricity and mains gas as a means of heating our homes.
Burning wood pellets is beneficial because;
Pellet fuel burns cleaner
Due to their composition and consistency, wood pellets burn hotter and that means they burn more cleanly.
As they are so compressed, a lot of moisture is squeezed out too – often pellets contain around 8% moisture – another factor than ensures they burn hotter and more cleanly.
Pellet fuel produces more heat…
… a LOT more heat in fact! A low moisture level, as we have seen, contributes to this. Combustion efficiency is the measure of how much of the fuel is converted in energy. In the case of pellet stoves, they are 75% to 90% efficient.
And for you, that means you’ll be warm in winter but won’t have the massive energy bill to go with it.
