How anti-dust treatment revolutionised wood pellet technology
In recent years there has been a boom in the use of wood pellet fuel across Europe, both in terms of municipal and domestic use. Wood pellets are gradually replacing coal and other fossil fuels to heat homes and water in a cleaner and more environmentally friendly way.
Wood pellets are fuel made from compressed organic matter made from five general categories of biomass, but are most commonly made from compressed sawdust. The pellets burn clean and long and, because they come from a renewable source, have much less impact on the planet than fossil fuels. In addition, because producing pellets involves the planting of trees, the carbon emissions of the fuel are offset by the increased demand for those trees – which remove CO2 from the atmosphere.
However, the development of pellet technology has not ended there. Efforts are constantly being made to improve on the efficiency of wood pellets and to overcome issues. One of the main stumbling blocks has been that pellets can crumble during transit. Once the hard exterior is broken, the insides can create a dusty powder, which does not burn. This can clog up boilers and burners, leading to costly repairs.
Noticing this problem, technicians in Germany set about creating Antistaub, or anti-dust pellets that would contain ten times less dust and sawdust particles than the average order. The ENplus wood pellets they created were successful in reducing dust to less than 0.1% in an average delivery.
This anti-dust treatment has made wood pellets even more efficient, and has proved to be one of the most effective dust and contaminant treatments on the market. They burn cleaner and less dust gets into your burner, meaning your investment can last longer.
